Whether it is a story, a meal, a song, or an illustration — I wanted to figure out what it was about the whole thing that made it so good for the recipient. Because this is a major part of what fuels me to create… giving something.

Creating is very hard work and I’m honest enough to admit I wanted something back from it too for all the effort. And that something was appreciating that I was a part of offering a healthy, pleasurable experience for others.

I think it comes down to the mental adventure and “exercise” of tracking and interacting with the work that is so satisfying both during and after; similar to physical exercise. We learn new things; step outside of ourselves and take a kind of journey.

The ultimate is if the work fuels and sparks us to create ourselves. This I see as completing the circle and giving back. Receiving, giving. Eternal.
